Revised Procedures for Electronic Presentations at NABS 2003-Athens, GA

In response to concerns about the early submission requirement for electronic talks, we have revised our procedures for the Athens meeting. Please note that it is now possible for presenters to load their electronic talks on-site, with the following restrictions:

  1. Presenters must be on-site the day before their session is scheduled, because files must be loaded onto the computer the evening (5:00-6:30pm) before the talk is given. Presenters will not be allowed to load their files immediately before or during their session.
  2. Microsoft Power-Point (for the PC) is the only software that will be available.
  3. Zip disks (100 or 250 MB) are preferred. If you use a CD, ensure that it is CD-R (rather than CD-RW) media. When you save your CD file, you must close or finalize your session in a form designated as readable by different computers (or else we will not be able to access your file). Only zip disks or CDs are permitted.
  4. Animation or video slides are forbidden.
  5. The 15-minute time limit for a talk will be enforced, even if problems occur with the presentation.

Presenters using other software or storage mechanisms are responsible for getting their presentations into Power-Point format and loaded onto a zip disk or CD before coming to the meeting. There will be no facilities available on-site for this purpose.

Presenters who will be otherwise occupied during their scheduled loading slot (e.g., fun run, committee meetings, etc.) must arrange for another person to load their presentation. Presenters are strongly encouraged to save presentations on 2 zip disks or CDs and bring 2x2 slide or transparency copies of critical materials as a back up, in case of problems.

We sincerely hope that these revised procedures will enable more NABS members to take advantage of electronic presentation. The NABS 2003 Organizing Committee thanks Jill Lancaster and Ric Hauer for encouraging us to adopt a more relaxed policy. Additional questions or comments should be directed to Darold Batzer at: dbatzer@bugs.ent.uga.edu.

Question 1: Would you attend another joint meeting in the next 4 years with either the American Society for Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) or the Society for Wetland Science?
