Graduate Research Assistantships in prairie stream ecology, Department of Zoology and Center for Ecology, Southern Illinois University, Division of Biology, Kansas State University
Graduate student and postdoc positions
Posted: 10 Jun, 2008
Expiration Date: 10 Aug, 2008
Two graduate research assistantships are available for projects investigating how riparian vegetation and related land management practices influence prairie stream structure and function. One student will be based at Southern Illinois University and one at Kansas State University. Focal projects will be grazing manipulations on headwater systems in southwest Missouri and riparian vegetation manipulations at the Konza Prairie Biological Station (http://www.konza.ksu.edu/konza/). The SIU student will focus on consumer responses to manipulations and the KSU student will focus on primary production, water quality, and biogeochemistry. Substantial collaboration between the two students is anticipated. Successful applicants will have demonstrated experience working independently, relevant experience in stream ecology or a related field, and be available to start in August or December 2008. Doctoral students are preferred for these projects, but potential MS students with significant experience will be considered. Potential applicants should contact Matt Whiles (SIU) or Walter Dodds (KSU) for more information and instructions for applying.
