- Annotated Checklist of Fishes (394)
The Annotated Checklists of Fishes is an electronic journal published by the
California Academy of Sciences. Established in 2003, the journal "serves to
provide the most up-to-date taxonomic treatment of each family of Recent
fishes." The Checklists are available in PDF files and are organized
sequentially, phylogenetically, and alphabetically by family. This site
links to other sections of the Department of Ichthyology at the California
Academy of Sciences as well, including the Catalog of Fishes, Collection
Database, Funding Opportunities, Newsletter of Systematic Ichthyology, and

- APIRS Online - the database of aquatic, wetland and invasive plants (504)
The APIRS bibliographic database is an online resource devoted to freshwater aquatic and wetland plants, as well as terrestrial and aquatic invasive plants. The database includes annotated citations for more than 58,000 research articles, books and reports about plant ecology, physiology, utilization and control. - Catalog of Fishes (494)
Produces by the California Academy of Science, the online "Catalog of Fishes" conatins about 55,000 described species and subspecies (= species) of fishes, about 10,300 genera and subgenera (= genera) of fishes, and about 20,000 references. Approximately 4,000 of the species names are not available for use because of technical reasons. About 26,000 species are valid ones, and about 25,000 are synonyms. About 200-300 new species are being described each year.
Included in the on-line version are all species, genera, and references, along with the classification, introduction, and list of museum abreviations. Other parts of the printed version are not included, such as the interpretation of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (Appendix A), and the species and genera in a classification (which can be simulated with appropriate searches), and Appendix B.
- Chemical Ecology of Insects (412)
This Web site by Dr. John Byers of the US Department of Agriculture's Agriculture Research Service provides a plethora of information and resources on the chemical ecology of insects. The site's main focus is providing databases and compilations of scientific research papers that cover numerous aspects of insect ecology, many of which have been authored by Byers. The site also includes additional databases and downloadable software. This listing consists of Late Quaternary palaeoenvironmental sites within the SCAPE (Study of Cultural Adaptations in the Canadian Prairie Ecozone) study area of western interior Canada, northern US and adjacent areas. Not all sites are lakes; some are peatlands, wetlands, fens, or bogs. Many sites have yielded pollen data, but the listing also includes sites where plant macroremains, diatoms, and algal pigments have been investigated. The references included for each site are the main ones with primary data or detailed discussions. So far (9 Jan 02), the listing consists of 337 sites and 324 citations.

- The Effects of Temperature on Invertebrates and Fish - A Selected Bibliography (470)
The bibliography focuses on aquatic invertebrates and fish, and includes information on cold as well as warm temperatures. While most of the 3,453 references concern whole organisms, there are some that involve molecular, cellular or tissue studies. There are no references, however, to plants and few to microorganisms, parasites or insects. Nearly all the references have appeared in peer-reviewed journals, though a few reports are included. There are no references to theses or dissertations. This bibliography ends in about 1993. Commercial bibliographies are available that provide references since 1993.
