Bridging the Watershed (440)
Bridging the Watershed (BTW) is one of five "National Park Labs" programs that promotes national parks as learning laboratories and provides a model that can be replicated in other parks and watersheds. The program is based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. BTW partners share a fundamental goal to educate the public about the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay watersheds in order to heighten awareness and develop stewardship for these resources. Science curriculum modules have been developed for high school students studying Earth science, chemistry, and the life sciences. Each module is composed of performance-based activities in which students examine and analyze the health of their watershed by applying science, math, problem solving and action skills. Students gather data to investigate and assess real-world issues in the parks and watershed.
Creek Connections (389)
Creek Connections has forged an effective partnership between Allegheny College and regional K-12 schools to turn waterways in Northwest Pennsylvania, Southwest New York, and the Pittsburgh area into outdoor environmental laboratories. Emphasizing a hands-on, inquiry based investigation of local waterways, this project annually involves over 40 different secondary schools and the classes of 50 teachers. Site includes: information about regional waterways; field, classroom and online educational resources; and access to water quality data (1995-pres) collected by program participants.
North American Association of Environmental Education (427)
The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) is a network of professionals, students, and volunteers working in the field of environmental education throughout North America and in over 55 countries around the world. Since 1971, the Association has promoted environmental education and supported the work of environmental educators. There are many environmental interest groups, and many organizations dedicated to improving education. NAAEE uniquely combines and integrates both of these perspectives, and takes a cooperative, nonconfrontational, scientifically-balanced approach to promoting education about environmental issues.
Watershed Academy - USEPA (463)
EPA's Watershed Academy provides training and information on implementing watershed approaches to local, state, tribal, and federal officials and private practitioners of watershed management. Site includes the Watershed Academy's Distance Learning Program, Academy 2000, a set of self-paced training modules that provide a basic but broad introduction to the many facets of watershed management.
