Accommodations

Primary lodging will be at the Westin Convention Center Pittsburgh. With 650+ rooms, it could hold everyone at one site. The rooms cost $99 single and $109 double, triple or quad (double beds with sleeper sofa) per night. Room tax is 16%. These rates are available for the weekend before and after the meeting also. We have also made arrangements with Duquesne University (less than 1 mile across town) for dormitory rooms at $24 per night per person. The University sits on a bluff overlooking the Monongahela River. Energetic people can walk the road up the bluff, but most of us take the elevator from Fisher Hall on Forbes Avenue to the walkway and cross over to the campus. Signs will direct you to the dorms for check-in. To learn more about the university visit their website (www.duq.edu).

The Westin is a First Class Hotel, with many amenities. There are several bars (with happy hour), two restaurants and a fitness center. One of the restaurants is an award winning seafood house, with a sushi bar and raw bar. The other specializes in breakfast, and lunch buffets. The bars also serve food. Guests at the hotel may use the swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and steam rooms at no cost. There is a charge of $25 for the week to use the weights, treadmills, bikes and Nautilus equipment. Participants are responsible for making their own hotel arrangements. The reservation number is 412 281-3700. You may also want to check out the Westin Web site (www.westin.com) for more information on the hotel. Be sure to mention the NABS meeting when making reservations or you may be charged rack rates which approach $175 per night! There is a separate form to be submitted with registration for rooms at the university. All room reservations must be made by April 26, 2002, after which the hotel and university will make them available to the general public or to students.

The hotel will provide luggage storage for those checking out early but still attending sessions, or for those arriving early to take part in pre-meeting activities.

There are many other accommodations available downtown or nearby, such as the Hilton, Marriott, Omni William Penn, Ramada, Renaissance, and Sheraton Station Square Hotels but all are substantially more costly than the contract price at the Westin, and none have been reserved for NABS. Motels and motor inns are available outside the city that may be slightly cheaper, but commuting to the meeting and parking are difficult. If you are interested in accommodations outside the city, they can be found easily on the Internet.
