ENDOWMENT AUCTION FESTIVITIES

The Graduate Resource Committee asks for your help in increasing the number of research awards available to student NABS members by soliciting donations for the student-run auctions and raffle that will be held at the Athens meeting. Any items with a benthological, scientific, or just fun twist are welcome. All proceeds from the auctions/raffle are deposited into the NABS Endowment fund and interest from this fund is used for student awards each year. For more information about the events or on how to donate items, please contact Joanna Lessard (lessard4@msu.edu) for the bidding auction and raffle or Lisa Shama (lisa.shama@eawag.ch) for the silent auction.

Update: Due to Georgia raffle laws, we will not be having a raffle in Athens this year. Instead we will be holding a silent auction (in addition to the normal auction and silent book auction) on certain donated items.

We have already received some great donation items, however, we are still in need of more donations. If you have any items that you would like to donate to either of the GRC fund raisers we would gladly accept them in Athens.

life beyond science
mentors and margaritas

Compadre's Mexican Restaurant
4:30-7:00pm Tues, May 27

The graduate resources committee has developed a new event for NABS this.year, and we hope to see many members attend. Please join us for a mixer at Compadre's Mexican Restaurant with a free taco bar (vegetarian options provided), free margaritas, and a panel discussion designed to strengthen interactions between graduate students and more experienced NABS members. The discussion will involve members of NABS with diverse interests in the field and will feature perspectives on balance in life "beyond science." After the discussion, the mixer will carry on with continued informal discussion among students and mentors. This event is open to all students, as well as all NABS members interested in mentoring a new generation of benthologists! Directions will be provided at the meeting check-in location.
