NABS2004: Reminders

We look forward to seeing you in Vancouver. As you prepare for your trip, a couple of reminders.

If you are coming from outside of Canada, you should have your passport with you.

Bring your abstracts bulletin with you. The on-site program will have titles and times, but no abstracts.

Registration begins at 8:00am, Sunday, June 6th in the Gage Residences.

Posters

The maximum size for posters will be 4’ by 4’. Please put up your poster in the Student Recreation Centre on Sunday afternoon or early Monday morning. Your poster board position will be numbered with your presentation number (from the bulletin or the web listing).

Oral presentations

We will use computer projectors and computers supplied for the conference. We cannot allow anyone to use their own computer. Please bring your PowerPoint presentation on a CD or memory stick to the Audio-Visual room at least 24 h prior to your talk. Sorry, but we cannot accommodate video clips within PowerPoint presentations.

To make sure text displays correctly on another computer: When you create a presentation on a computer that uses one set of fonts, it might not look the same on another computer that has different fonts. To solve this problem, you can save the fonts - or embed them - in the presentation.

- On the File menu, click 'Save As'.

- Click Tools, and then click Embed TrueType Fonts.

Notes:

- You can embed any TrueType font that comes with Windows. Other TrueType fonts can be embedded only if they have no license restrictions. If a font can't be embedded - for example, it's not marked as being editable or installable - a message appears to tell you why.

- Saving a presentation with embedded fonts increases the file size of your presentation.

You are strongly urged to test your presentation CD on a colleague’s PC computer before coming to the meeting and to test it again in the speaker preview room.

Shuttle buses

There will be shuttle buses from the airport to UBC running from 12:00 to 20:00 Saturday, and from 11:00 to 19:00 Sunday, for a fee of $5 Canadian. You should be able to spot the NABS sign and greeter at either the international or domestic arrivals area. Note: we do not have shuttles available for the return to the airport and taxi fare is about $25 Canadian (we will set up a carpool board near the registration if people want to share a cab back to the airport).
