Auburn University is offering a Graduate Research Assistantship within the Department of Biological Sciences and associated with the AU Center for Forest Sustainability (CFS), beginning Summer 2008 (exact starting date negotiable). Funding is anticipated for up to 3 years (2008-2011), with additional support provided by Graduate Teaching Assistantships in Biological Sciences on a competitive basis (total annual stipend $16,524-17,207, depending on degree). A full tuition waiver also will be awarded. Both M.S. or Ph.D. students are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will conduct research designed to 1) inventory stream fishes and benthic invertebrates in coastal watersheds along an urbanization gradient, and 2) develop empirical models relating watershed land use and stream community structure and function. The research will be conducted in the Wolf Bay Watershed, southwest Alabama, between Perdido Bay (east) and the city of Mobile (west). The student is expected to interact with faculty and graduate students from CFS on parallel studies involving stream biogeochemistry and riparian zone function. Selection will be based on grades (GPA), GREs (minimum combined score of 1000 on v-GRE & q-GRE), and letters of reference from at least 3 persons with sufficient knowledge of the applicant's potential for research. Those with a strong field-based research background in stream ecology, ichthyology, and/or aquatic entomology, will be given top consideration. For additional information please contact:
