The Canadian Rivers Institute is now offering training for Environment Canada's Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN). CABIN is a collaborative programme developed and maintained by Environment Canada to establish a network of reference sites, with the database available to all users interested in assessing the biological health of fresh water in Canada using benthic macroinvertebrates.
CABIN provides:
* A nationally standardized, scientifically credible sampling protocol
* Online data entry for storage, extraction, and sharing
* A quality controlled national reference site database
* Online data analysis, interpretation, mapping and reporting tools
* Software to perform analyses using the Reference Condition Approach
* Quality assurance and control of both the data and taxa identifications
* Nationally consistent training and certification

There are various levels of training available from data entry to project manager. The full program consists of 5 modules and can be completed over a 10-week period (modules are staggered on a two-week basis).
Start dates: 28 April, 12 May, 26 May Additional offerings are possible later in the summer and early fall depending on the demand.
There is a 2-day field practicum that will be offered by Environment Canada in various regions across Canada in mid to late summer that will not cost any additional registration fees, however, travel costs will be the responsibility of the participant.
