RESOURCE ASSISTANT (TEMPORARY), Laboratory Team Member, MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) temporary position at the Missouri Department of Conservation Resource Science Center, Columbia, Missouri. The successful candidate’s primary job duty will be to sort aquatic macroinvertebrates from preserved samples, and enumerate aquatic macroinvertebrates for a variety of projects. Other duties may include, but are not restricted to: data entry, equipment maintenance, sample inventory, assistance with quality assurance/quality control examinations of processed samples, assistance with equipment and supply procurement and inventory, and assistance with sampling in the field.

HOURS AND PAY RATE: $9.32 per hour starting January 1,, 2009. Applicants should be able to work 40 hours per week. Employment will be through June 15, 2009 and may be renewed for up to 2000 hours thereafter depending upon work required, work performance, and funding. Missouri Department of Conservation benefits are not available for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor of Science degree or course work toward completion of a degree preferably in Fisheries and Wildlife Management, Biological Sciences, or related major; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with sampling and sorting aquatic invertebrate organisms and adherence to laboratory protocol is desirable. Academic background in aquatic entomology is also desirable.

SPECIAL ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Ability to process preserved samples and sort and enumerate aquatic invertebrates. Ability to accurately and legibly record data. Ability to use a personal computer. Ability to share lab space with others. Ability to follow instructions and protocol and communicate with supervisors.
