3 Rivers - 2nd Nature, is a five year program that seeks to establish a regional baseline understanding of the rivers, banks and streams of Allegheny County. The project is interdisciplinary with project teams working on water: physical and chemical indicators, pathogens and benthic organisms, banks: botany/biodiversity and geology, and a GIS based stream restoration and day-lighting analysis. The objective is simply to assess current conditions, integrate the results through GIS analysis and identify sites for preservation, conservation and restoration.
